Why We Like It

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is a simple no annual fee card that is a great addition if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. Just don’t use it abroad as it does have a foreign transaction fee.

While the Freedom Unlimited earns cash back, you can combine the points it earns with a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred Card.

If you have any of those three cards, the cash back becomes transferable Ultimate Rewards points. This allows you to take advantage of the many Ultimate Rewards transfer partners.

The Chase 5/24 rule applies to this card. If you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank and they show on your personal credit report, you won’t be eligible to open the card.

Lucrative Bonus Categories
The ability to earn 3%/3x or 5%/5x on several categories is a huge selling point.
1.5%/1.5x On All Other Spend
You’ll never earn a measly 1x with the Freedom Unlimited as all non-bonus category spend earns 1.5%/1.5x.
